Riordan, a second year barbering student from Marjorie Milner College, undertook the “World’s Greatest Shave” at Auburn South Primary School on Thursday 8th March 2018. The event was a great success helping to raise over $10,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. It was also supported by DJ’s and was a fun community event.

Riordan, from the small town of Axedale just south of Bendigo, works with Sam at the Grooming Lounge. His passion is men’s grooming and he commenced the barbering course with the first cohort back in October 2016. Marjorie Milner College was the first College to proudly deliver the Certificate III in Barbering. The motivation was Russel Milner, whom was a barber apprentice back in the 1950’s.

Riordan has come a long way from October 2016 to now and is becoming a competent barber. On the 8th March Riordan shaved seven heads which included members of the local inner-eastern Melbourne community. Riordan described it has a great challenge and “I don’t think I will ever do another haircut in front of so many people”. The College was very proud of Riordan’s efforts and how far he has come with his barbering skills. We look forward to Riordan completing his SHB30416 Certificate III in Barbering later this year.

For those that are unaware, the World’s Great Shave started back in 1998 with this year marking its 20th anniversary. It raises money for the Leukaemia Foundation. Over the past 20 years people of all ages shave, colour or wax, cut pony tails, banish beards and trim top knots. And they’re supported all the way by proud family, friends, colleagues and classmates. Some may have a personal connection to blood cancer, while others take part simply to have fun and raise money for a good cause. Blood cancer in the third most common cause of cancer death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma. Every day another 35 people will be diagnosed.

We thank Auburn South Primary School for the opportunity and sincerely thank Riordan for his efforts and the hard work he has put into his Certificate III in Barbering Course (SHB30516).
