Floristry Apprentice Winner Kathleen Horton National Australian Winner of the Oasis Designz Cup Competition.    The 2016 Oasis Design Cup Competition was themed a tribute to a painter. The Floristry Apprentice winner was Kathleen, who now works at Style by Nature in Port Melbourne. Kathleen was the winner of the Victorian Oasis Design Cup and was confirmed winner of the National Oasis Design Cup Winner for 2016. Kathleen won $1500.00 for her amazing design and winning both the Victorian and National Award. Kathleen was inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s 1923 “circles in a circle”. This can cover up to $1000.00 towards their training in 2017. If you are studying a hairdressing apprenticeship or Beauty Therapy you can apply. Floristry Skills

Are your floristry skills up to date? It is an interesting question. For example, is spiralling better than cross stems in method? In the last ten years training has only supported spiral or straight stemmed construction. A florist trained earlier may not know how to spiral. Stems are neater especially in glass vases and by locking into the spiral as you construct breakage is minimal. There are always advantages for change in an industry and a smart employer should be open to change it they see advantages. Brisbane Florist of the Future Winners (Interflora)

Interflora Queensland Florist of the Future Winners Last weekend the Interflora District 5 Florist of the Future Competition State Heat was held in Queensland. Marjorie Milner College had two previous students that had studied floristry in Melbourne at the College. Both were in the competition. Emily Piscioneri completed her school based apprenticeship with Blooms on Bridge in 2014 and she was the successful winner of the District 5 Queensland heat.
